Day Six in Portland

 Tuesday

Again, this day was scheduled to be our trip to Seattle day, but after driving to the beach on Sunday, we decided to find something local and save Seattle for another trip entirely. So we decided to hit up OMSI - Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. We bought the tickets online the night before, so it was a breeze. Let me just say, having a site that allows ticket purchasing AND downloading to apple wallet is the way to go.

OMSI advertised a dinosaur exhibit and Billie was pumped about it. When we got there, it was a little underwhelming. The large rubber dinosaurs had really limited movement and felt a little outdated. Billie was fine with it, but we breezed through the exhibit way faster than I had hoped for when purchasing the tickets. The rest of the permanent exhibit was limited to say the least. Some parts of the Museum were still closed due to COVID restrictions, so maybe that would have helped things, I don't know. We had purchased tickets for their IMAX but had to kill an hour because we sped through the exhibits faster than expected.

We looked through the gift shop, but holy cow, the prices were out of control. Billie was disappointed we didn't buy her any toys, though we did buy some astronaut ice cream (which she later thought was disgusting). As we waited, we hit up their snack area and had some sandwiches. They were fine, though a little boring. We killed enough time to head into the cue for the movie.

Again, I don't want to shit on this museum, but this movie sucked. It was supposed to be about dinosaurs and it was, but IMAX movies are supposed to focus on the swooping in and out, the high flying over mountains, etc. This movie was sort of a documentary that had WAY more talking than my 5 year-old was prepared for. She was bored in minutes and I felt bad for bringing her. When the movie was done, we dipped and decided to head downtown one last time before leaving.

The only big stop that day was MUJI, a Japanese store that is inspired by simple, well-made products, from clothes to furniture to textiles and stationary. We were primarily there for the stationary. Lola and Billie got a lot of pens and markers, while I gathered a pile of notebooks. It was a beautiful store and I'd advise a visit if you get the chance. Everything is just so well-made and beautiful, though simple. After we finished up, we drove back to the Airbnb. We ordered some Texas BBQ via Ubereats and paid way too much, but the food was good. After we finished eating, Lola started packing. She's a master and everything was ready to go before we went to sleep.
